Okay....
As an idea to raise funds, we could tap into the talent pool that we have to offer services to the Wargaming community at Brother's Grim. These are things that could be spread around the group with some services being done by a select group. Here is what I have in mind.
1) Painting -We could offer a painting service with several levels of complexity. Each level of complexity means more techniques/detail are applied to the models in question. Naturally, certain painters would be called upon to do harder pieces while a great many of us are capable of doing simpler levels. Here is an example.
Level 1 - Tabletop Quality - All portions of the miniature are base coated in requested colors. Bases are not painted. (I think of someone like Scott who might actually want to pay to have us just apply a basecoat to his minis. There is very little difference between someone like Tim putting Scorched Brown on a bunch of robes or someone not so talented putting Scorched Brown on a bunch of robes. If you are a neat painter, you can handle this. Great option for players who want to get a large number of models started without totally giving up their control of the painting process.
Level 2 - Shaded or Drybrushed and Based - All portion of the miniature are base coated in requested colors and an appropriate wash is put over top to create shadows. So...metals get the black wash, fleshes get whatever brown you want and so on (or green for orcs, etc). Again, more than a few of us can handle this. In addition, areas that would benefit from a drybrush are done so. Bases are done in a basic, unpainted mix of flock and grit.
Level 3 - Character - Fully painted (Base coated, shaded and highlighted as appropriate). Details like eyes and gems are given proper treatment. Bases are done in grit, painted, drybrushed and then flocked or topped with requested terrain (grass, snow, mud, desert, etc).
2)- Display Boards
Everyone needs one. We could create cost effective display boards that can match any theme needed. I'm not talking about crazy things like what I did for Xroads. Something that is basic, but characterful. Terrain-type to request. Between foam, glue, grit and paint this wouldn't have to be very cost intensive and a determined modeler could do one in a few hours with some planning.
3)- Modelling/Conversion
We have some players who are quite good at conversions and modeling (I'm thinking of Roy and Jeremy). Dave is a fair hand at the greenstuff. Many people would love to have specialized objective markers or unit fillers made. These types of things are something people would be willing to pay for.
Naturally, prices would vary. To give the painters/modellers a reason other than altruism to the do the work, the proceeds would be split 50/50 between the worker and Turn7. We could have a small display in the shop to advertise some examples of our work (What is a Tabletop model, exactly? What does a Character level job look like?) or even put it up on the web.
Thoughts?
