So I forgot to get a membership from Jay on Friday and now I won't be at BG while a membership selling Turn 7 member will be in the store for possibly a few weeks. Is there maybe a way to set up buying a membership from the guy behind the counter? Maybe some kind of special code in the computer and money comes out of the till to go to all the right people? Maybe set up some kind of paypal system and then leave a card for the person behind the counter?

There were two other people at the store tonight who mentioned wanting a membership, but also couldn't get one because no one was there to sell them one.

Just a thought...

Hey Jeremy,

Its a good point you make.

I am going to speak with the other officers about having some sort of rotating near-term schedule where we stop by the shop on announced nights for the next two-three weeks just to give people a chance to buy memberships.

For certain, I will be there on Thursday from 3pm on. I will try to make it down tomorrow for about 20-30 minutes just to see if anyone wants to make some purchases.

There are a couple of issues with having people other than the club's elected officers doing the buying/selling of memberships.

1) The money is not being put into some sort of bank account or safety deposit box. Storage, collection and transfer of the funds is being done on what is effectively an honor system. By voting for officers and agreeing to pay dues, the membership has effectively put a vote of confidence into the officers to handle the funds.

2) Asking the shop to collect membership dues can get dicey. Its putting shop employees in a position where they are removing money from the til to give to customers based on transactions that likely occurred before the current employee was on duty. Think about this. Jimbo Jones buys a membership from Employee A. Employee A is busy and forgets to log the information/transaction into the sheet/roster/whatever that is behind the counter. Money is collected. Turn7 Officer B is told by Jimbo that he got his membership. Officer B asks shop Employee B for the money. Shop Employee B, having no record of the transaction, refuses to give Officer B the money.

That being said, I recognize that being available on one night a week (generally) is not going to work for those who can't swing down those nights.

I will bring up the issue with the other officers. My gut is to go with pre-announced times over the next few weeks to fill the majority of demand. If others have suggestions for secure ways to handle this better, please post here.

Jay

Maybe expand the people who can sell memberships to people who organize whole games like me, Joe D. (or is Garrett leader of FoW), and Malifaux Denis. It would also make sense to empower at least one employee of the store to sell memberships, though I do see the problems with letting them be sold behind the counter by anyone.

Yes this is a very Valid point. I think we can discuss figuring out the logistics this Thursday. I am sure we can come up with a more accessible model but I think it is something we are going to have to own.

I would be willing to help out with membership sales if that's the direction we decide to go in. The fact that I'm three minutes from the shop, and for now anyway, there three or four days a week probably would make life easier for some people. Just to get the initial push of membership cards sold or however you guys want to approach it. As Scott said, we can discuss it on Thursday.

Just to let everyone know, Garrett will also be selling memberships from this point forward. Currently, he has only a handful of cards (they are split between Garrett, Roy, Scott and myself) but since he is down at the shop quite often, feel free to hit him up for your membership.

Of course, you can still PM any of the Turn7 officers to arrange pick up of a membership.

Thanks!

Jay
