I am very interested in investing time and money into Flames of War, however Learning from my war hammer days I would like to see if I could get some assistance with what I need to get started the proper and most efficiant way.

I live in saint James and wanted to know if there are players in the area that would be willing to meet me at the store to show me the ropes. For instance I know that I want my first army to be the irish guard, however I took a look at the hells highway book and was not sure how to put the correct army together that would get me started in a pick up game or two..... I am only available to play Friday, Saturday and Sunday's. I travel during the weekdays.

I am also looking for assistance on building out a game table for my basement so I can also introduce and play with my son as well as other friends when they stop by. I know how to build the actual table but would love assistance on how and where I can go to buy the proper terrain to model one of the battles to.......

Regardless please let me know if any of you in the fow community have interest in assisting me taking the first step into flame of wars. I do not mind spending and investing the $$'s to build my army out, however I do not want to over purchase things that would not make sense or never be used in a real game. I also noticed that people who play have many different types of chits that show when someone is pinned ect... I also love some of the things I see people use to show tanks on fire and what not, so I would also want to know where I could get these things as well........

I am always available after 8pm Friday and Sat as once my kids are in bed I can jet out for the night while the wife is sound asleep;) afternoons on Friday work well for me but mornings and afternoons on Saturdays are tough...

Regardless thank you for letting me introduce myself and I hope to get to the point where I see some of you on the battlefield!

Well, in general, Friday can be a little rough due to the Magic players that normally overwhelm the shop. Saturday can be tricky for the same reasons.

I can give you a brief rundown if you'd like pretty much any weekday, as it's summer vacation right now. Generally the FoW sorts are there on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I can come down on a Friday afternoon easily enough, my wife gets home from work a little before 8 so that's generally the latest cap for that.

I can give you some basics on terrain building, but to be fair we sort of cheat on the buildings. I'll explain when we meet. I was one of the guys who helped to build most of the terrain we have in the store, so chances are I can handle any questions you might have.

Understand on the scheduling, however there is no way I would be able to ever play on the week day outside of Friday. My Job has me traveling way too much.....

Regardless would love to meet up possibly next Friday pending schedules. THis way you can show me the ropes as well as the terrain. SHould I be prepared to purchase an army when we meet?

I think you had watcher Parker and I play that one afternoon. I know for Irish Guards you need Shermans and Fireflys. A platon of guards infantry, and some Stuarts probably. I also have seen most Irish Guard armies include John Ormsby Evelyn Vandeleur in his Humber. He has alot of cool special rules. I recommend also checking out WWPD.Net. Their forums have alot of helpful tips across a wide range of topics. As Garrett mentioned, I can help you out with some buildings for your own table too.

Also, call the shop and find out when Joe DiCarlo is there. He's the main FoW contact and a phenomenal teacher. I wouldn't be so into this game if it wasn't for him. Gil, the shop owner, is also a big fan of FoW and you can probably get some game in with him later in the week.

Our FoW group isn't as big as say 40K, so alot of the times we contact each other directly, which can make coordinating through the forum slightly difficult at times. I know Hooper can only play on Sundays , and he's a fantastic modeler and a blast to hang out with.

Welcome to FoW.

I too could probably make a Friday as I am a school teacher as well. I don't know the rules as well as a lot of the guys, but could easily show you the basics.

I can show you some neat terrain tricks as I just made rivers out of foamcore with my students. I play the game in class when we do the World War II unit. I have made two tables of terrain using nothing but styrofoam, sand, elmer's glue, and trees bought at craft stores. Probably cost less than $50 for both tables.

Next Friday would work! Lets plan on meeting up as I would love to learn how to make terrain like that at a good price.

Anyone that may have time tomorrow let me know as I could meet up and even pick up my army so that I can demo with someone....

Next Friday is looking bad for me because I'll already be down on Thursday night. I could probably do the Friday after.

I'll be down there all day on Friday, so if you'd like I could run a demo or two for you, I have an American force and a German force.

Done, I will look to get there a little after the store opens! That way if I do not get anyone to assist in my army creation\purchasing today I can look to work with you once we have had our demo run.

As for the others that would assist, especially in terrain, just let me know what works best and we can meet up!

Parker and I are probably gonna play a game around 3pm.
Joe DiCarlo is working tomorrow too, not sure if he's opening while Pete is on vacation, but he's definitely the man to talk to if you haven't already
