Yes, easy 8s suck against a fortified infantry company that replaces the 60% points of a German infantry company that usually goes into armor into fortifications, especially when your tank company doesn't have infantry, let alone pioneers.

When playing as a full tank company with no infantry support (and that means infantry, not artillery, guns, whatever else), you're probably going to lose to a fortified company in an attack/defend mission. It's a match up you're likely to lose without divine providence, rigged dice or the spirits of Patton and Rommel watching over you, or a drunk opponent.

When playing against the "meta", maxing out the amount of Easy 8s you have, FOR NOW, is still the way to go. 90% of German lists are still going to take big cats, Russian lists are taking larger tanks more than ever, and the easy 8, while not perfect, is still the best American answer to those.

Also, Mr. "Top 3 in the store", I'd be more than happy to deflate your ego and bring you back to reality, your crutch Churchills (and Cruiser) and all.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Spectacular. I loved when Commander Riker said that in Babylon 5.

Just got back from Nanuet, good playing by everyone by the way, and really liked how my E8's worked out. I think it's important to team them with smaller and weaker M4A3's in order to keep the Detroit's finest (16 in move in open) if you want to be a fast unit.
Teaming the E8's with a Jumbo might work as well with smooth ride if your tactics are slow and steady.
Like any new piece of equipment, you have to learn how to use them properly. I have seen people charging them out in to open battle with the Germans.... hate to tell you but they are still Shermans, use your speed to get into an advantageous position behind terrain and your smooth ride for small adjustments while you pump shells into the enemy.

They aren't brawlers they are snipers.

Yeah they definitely are snipers.

After seeing what everyone brought to the table on Saturday, I really think they have their uses. They're really great tank killers and I'm convinced you need a minimum of two per unit for maximum efficiency. I also think smooth ride makes them very much worth taking over a 76 because of how many people took German Veterans. I played against three veteran lists and that extra +1 to hit when you're already at 4+ is pretty huge.

Though I never really thought they sucked, I wasn't convinced that they'd be super useful because I didn't realize how many tanks German players would be stacking into their infantry armies. After seeing two tank platoons in almost every single Axis army, I think E8's will pay for themselves.

oh absolutely, what you stated has been my experience for the 7 years I've been playing, I always expect multiple armor units in a German foe. IINO (Infantry in name only) armies wre the bane of my existence for years b/c I would have to assault an "Infantry" unit that only had 16 stands on the table, the rest was tanks.
