I've been looking, but is there anywhere that gives an overview of how a given faction plays? ie; small elite units? / overwhelming numbers? fast attack? bricks?

With all of the options of the unit abilities and all the weapons that do different things I'm having some difficulty determining how the armies play.

I think if you read though the fluff on the website they give you a feel for each army. That being said factions are fairly balanced. Just about every army has access to Heavy Machine Guns, Rockets and TAG's. Just like in real modern warfare guns are dangerous.
If you download the rulebook online and look at the actual stats you get a feel for how the army will play. For example with Yu_Jing. Most Yu-Jing have higher than average close combat stats. Add to that alot of untils with TO camo, and drop troops. You can start to see how they can play.
One the other hand the Alien Combine Army has access to Plasma weapons and high BTS ( anti EM / Hacker) stats. This High Tech army can use superior Hacking to mess up other high tech armies with low BTS. Unless that army is super low tech like Adiadna. That are is so low tech they is nothing to hack. What they do have is Auto Cannons, lots of bullets and high speed, multi-terrain WereWolves
Just my two credits worth. I'll be down on Thursday at 330 for Malifaux. I'll have Infinity of you want to play 6ish to 8ish for a small game.

This is what I'm talking about. I've been reading the rules and looking over some of the armies....specifically Yu-Jing and the Combine and I couldn't put together those two sentences of yours above. Once I have some experience with the game I'm sure I'll see these things but coming into it cold....trying to remember what all the abilities do and how they interact with the possible weapon choices. I'm trying to figure out what force I want to look into.

Yep. You have to push the models around the board to see. Even if it is a very small game with 3 models each. There are alot of rules but they interact well. The main infinity sight has a cool wiki. http://infinitythegame.wikispot.org/Home
So if you read about a rule check the wiki for what it actually does.

Like I said, I'll be down thursday for Malifaux at 330. After that I am free until 815 for infinity or just hanging out. I'll bring the Yu Jing and Arianda army if you want to get a small feel for it.

Sorry I haven't been on the forums as much as I could be. Thy crash my home machine now so I can only log on from other machines. Roy has given some great advice and the Infinity forums themselves are pretty good. Here's a good run down of the factions:

Yu Jing: close combat and heavy infantry. Really good at surprise close combat one hit kills and the best air drop troops (think 40k deep strike but better).
Pan Oceana: Best shooting and TAGs in the game. Specialize in their cheap troops having high BS. They also have a variety of knights with different abilities.
Ariadna: Cheap camp troops and mine layers. Low tech with no remotes or TAGs. They also have werewolves.
Nomads: Best hackers and remotes in the game. They can shoot hacking repeaters at people.
Aleph: Good at everything with expensive elite cyborgs.
Combine Army: Good at everything with their own neat tricks like dropping seed soldiers from space and taking over your opponent's models.
Haqqislam: Best doctors, good drop troops and infiltrators. Awesome link teams.

That's my run down. I hope to be able to get to BG some time next week for games. Let me know what days are best for you. Friday's best for me but other days could work.

yeah, I'm free that nite. I should be there as long as nothing crazy comes up between now and then. I'm still pretty conflicted about whether I'm going to like it or not so I'd love to be able to get a game in. The one I did with Roy was good to understand some of the mechanics but obviously wasn't an accurate portrayal of an actual game. There is a pretty steep learning curve.
